This week, Madison has been overflowing with more than 2,500 types of cheese from 24 nations around the world – last night final judging for the 2012 World Championship Cheese Contest was presented at the Monona Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin.
Putting up a good fight in last night’s Sweet 16 judging were Wisconsin’s own, Marieke Smoked Gouda of Holland’s Family Cheese, Havarti and Pepper Havarti from Decatur Dairy, and President Brie from Lactalis American Group.
Congratulations are in order for the 2012 World Cheese Champions, Team Steenderen of the Netherlands with their low-fat Gouda, Vermeer.
The three-day event, organized by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, featured 40 international judges working through over 50,000 pounds of cheese and butter entries, and an exclusive cheese tasting featuring an assortment of cheese from the competition and additional Wisconsin cheeses, organized by Wisconsin Cheese Originals.
A big congratulations to all of our Wisconsin cheesemakers. Wisconsin Cheese took Best of Class in 35 of 82 classes. All contest results can be found at WorldChampionshipCheese.org.
