Cheese of the Month: Edam

by Wisconsin Cheese

A close relative to Gouda, “Edam” originated in the town of Edam, Holland, over 800 years ago. Buttery, smooth and slightly sweet, Edam is typically made with skim milk and is a bit firmer than Gouda cheese.

Edam is a fantastic melting cheese and is wonderful in many recipes, including potato dishes, pasta and baked egg dishes, such as frittatas. It pairs well with many beverages and is commonly served with crackers and fruit.

Two of our Grilled Cheese Academy masterpieces feature Wisconsin Edam – The Cheshire and The Bavaria. Check out this month’s grilled cheese tips and make a sandwich with Wisconsin Edam tonight.
