Earlier this summer, we taught you how to craft the perfect summer cheese plate, and today we’re back with another. It’s nearly impossible to tire of a good Wisconsin cheese plate—they’re easy for entertaining, and a quick dinnertime fix when cooking is the last thing on your mind.
This simple, snackable spread brings some of summer’s best flavors together, many of which you may already have lingering in your refrigerator. For the cheese, we’ve got three of Wisconsin’s best:
- Chipotle cheddar: The spicy, smoky flavor of Wisconsin chipotle cheddar is a nice change-up from the regular variety. Whether you cube it or slice it, it’s mild heat pairs deliciously with the sweetness of the tomatoes and berries.
- Pleasant Ridge Reserve (or other alpine-style cheese): America’s most awarded cheese, Pleasant Ridge Reserve has a nutty, grassy flavor that is at peak flavor during the summer months. If you can’t find Pleasant Ridge Reserve, any Wisconsin alpine-style cheese is a worthy substitute.
- Gorgonzola: A mild, creamy gorgonzola is a must on this cheese plate. It has a sharp, earthy flavor and soft texture that’s easily spreadable. We love it on whole grain bread topped with blackberries, then washed down with a chilled glass of white wine.
For the accompaniments, we’ve got a kid- and adult-friendly selection of nibbles. Crusty, whole grain bread gives everyone their carb fix, while the last of summer’s tomatoes and berries add a burst of color and sweetness. To round out the flavors, we’re adding peppercorn-studded salami slices and salty olives.
